Pink October – Learn and Share awareness on Breast Cancer with your Loved Ones

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  It is estimated that 1 out of every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.  Although with less frequency, men also are diagnosed with breast cancer, so it truly is an issue that can affect anyone. Cancer is personal.

Monthly breast self-examination (B.S.E) is advised for all women. It is however important to learn the correct technique and examine in a systematic way. It is also best to do it after the monthly period may have passed and the breast is no more as painful. [Learn more from this link]

An annual clinical breast examination (C.B.E) is also advised. This is performed by a trained health practitioner usually in a clinic setting. A C.B.E. may also be done more frequently based on a person’s risk profile. [Learn more from this link]

It is important to discuss any breast findings or related concerns with your doctor immediately. The doctor will then advise on the relevant screening or diagnostic tests to be undertaken
